Prayer Alert 09-21, June 19, 2009 – Sivan 27, 5769

 The Battle against Amalek

"Moses said to Joshua, 'Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.' As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
"Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. He said, 'For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.'" (Ex 17:9,11,15-16)
We thank God for Prime Minister Netanyahu's policy speech on June 14 in response to President Obama's Cairo speech. Netanyahu refused to give in to Obama's demand of an absolute end to all construction activity in the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria. He said that the Jewish people in the area must be able to "live normal lives and let mothers and fathers raise their children like everyone in the world."
Here is an excerpt of the rest of Netanyahu's speech,
"I now am asking that when we speak of the huge challenge of peace, we must use the simplest words possible, using person to person terms. Even with our eyes on the horizon, we must have our feet on the ground, firmly rooted in truth. The simple truth is that the root of the conflict has been and remains - the refusal to recognize the right of the Jewish People to its own state in its historical homeland.

"In 1947 when the United Nations proposed the Partition Plan for a Jewish state and an Arab state, the entire Arab world rejected the proposal, while the Jewish community accepted it with great rejoicing and dancing. The Arabs refused any Jewish state whatsoever, with any borders whatsoever.

"Whoever thinks that the continued hostility to Israel is a result of our forces in Judea, Samaria and Gaza is confusing cause and effect. The attacks on us began in the 1920s, became an overall attack in 1948 when the state was declared, continued in the 1950s with the fedaayyin attacks, and reached their climax in 1967 on the eve of the Six-Day War, with the attempt to strangle Israel. All this happened nearly 50 years before a single Israeli soldier went into Judea and Samaria.

"To our joy, Egypt and Jordan left this circle of hostility. They signed peace agreements with us which ended their hostility to Israel. It brought about peace.

"To our deep regret, this is not happening with the Palestinians. The closer we get to a peace agreement with them, the more they are distancing themselves from peace. They raise new demands. They are not showing us that they want to end the conflict.

"A great many people are telling us that withdrawal is the key to peace with the Palestinians. But the fact is that all our withdrawals were met by huge waves of suicide bombers.

"We tried withdrawal by agreement, withdrawal without an agreement, we tried partial withdrawal and full withdrawal. In 2000, and once again last year, the government of Israel, based on good will, tried a nearly complete withdrawal, in exchange for the end of the conflict, and were twice refused.
“The fundamental condition for ending the conflict is the public, binding and sincere Palestinian recognition of Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish People.”
"We withdrew from the Gaza Strip to the last centimeter, we uprooted dozens of settlements and turned thousands of Israelis out of their homes. In exchange, what we received were missiles raining down on our cities, our towns and our children. The argument that withdrawal would bring peace closer did not stand up to the test of reality.

"With Hamas in the south and Hezbollah in the north, they keep on saying that they want to 'liberate' Ashkelon in the south and Haifa and Tiberias.
Even the moderates among the Palestinians are not ready to say the most simplest things: The State of Israel is the national homeland of the Jewish People and will remain so.

"Friends, in order to achieve peace, we need courage and integrity on the part of the leaders of both sides. I am speaking today with courage and honesty. We need courage and sincerity not only on the Israeli side: we need the Palestinian leadership to rise and say, simply "We have had enough of this conflict. We recognize the right of the Jewish People to a state its own in this Land. We will live side by side in true peace." I am looking forward to this moment.

"We want them to say the simplest things, to our people and to their people. This will then open the door to solving other problems, no matter how difficult. The fundamental condition for ending the conflict is the public, binding and sincere Palestinian recognition of Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish People." (End quote)

The Palestinians Refuse to Accept the Jewish State of Israel

Already in March, Muhammad Dahlan - a former chief of one of the Palestinian Authority's multifarious secret police organizations, and once a tacit ally of the C.I.A. - defended Fatah, the largest faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization, from the charge, made by Hamas, that it had previously recognized Israel's right to exist.
"They say that Fatah has asked them to recognize Israel's right to exist, and this is a big deception," Dahlan said. "For the 1,000th time, I want to reaffirm that we are not asking Hamas to recognize Israel's right to exist. Rather we are asking Hamas not to do so, because Fatah never recognized Israel's right to exist." (See &emc=rss" target="_blank">http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/24/books/review/Goldberg-
t.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss
)
“President Obama has lifted himself up too high and it is time to ask God to intervene and stop his dangerous agenda!”
Now, after Netanyahu's speech, Palestinian President Abu Mazen as well as other leaders are quick to point out that they will never accept Israel as a Jewish state. Saeb Erekat said, "Not in 1000 years will we accept Israel as a Jewish state."
Is this basic hindrance to peace brought up by the present American administration? Not at all! The very opposite is happening. Here is a report from Israel National News after Netanyahu's recent speech,
"In a reversal of her stated position as a presidential candidate, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton revealed last week that an Iranian attack on Israel would no longer be considered as an attack on America. Speaking during an interview on ABC TVshe said that the Iranians could expect “retaliation” but America was not committing itself to come to Israel’s defense. Interviewer and White House Correspondent George Stephanopoulos reminded Clinton of her previous position by playing a 2008 video recording in which she states: 'I would make it clear to the Iranians that an attack on Israel would incur massive retaliation from the United States.'
"When asked if her new statement was official U.S. policy, Clinton dodged the question, 'I think it is U.S. policy to the extent that we have alliances and understandings with a number of nations. I don’t think there is any doubt in anyone’s mind that, were Israel to suffer a nuclear attack by Iran, there would be retaliation.' Stephanopoulos pressed her: 'By the United States?' But Clinton declined to commit: 'Well, I think there would be retaliation.'" (End quote)
It is obvious that because Netanyahu does not blindly obey Obama's demands regarding a Palestinian state, the United States is no longer promising to help Israel in case of a nuclear attack from Iran. That is the price Israel is paying for refusing to cooperate with President Obama. What no one has wanted to believe would happen is happening fast before our very eyes: the United States of America is turning against Israel.
Every leader with grandiose, selfish ambitions will always turn against Israel. President Obama is no exception. His allegiance with the Muslim world in the demand to halt all Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria is like the spirit of Amalek, attacking the weak and needy at the outskirts of the camp without any fear of God.
"Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God. When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!" (Deut 25:17-19)
The Amalekites had no fear of God. Neither has the present White House administration. When the Palestinian leaders criticized Netanyahu's recent speech, the White House calmed them down saying, "Do not worry about what Netanyahu says. What matters is what Obama says." We say, "Do not worry about what Obama says. What matters is what God says!"
"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever." (Isa 40:6-8)

It is Time to Fast and Pray!

God says that he will be at war with Amalek from generation to generation. We believe that we must now go on the offensive against this spirit. President Obama has lifted himself up too high and it is time to ask God to intervene and stop his dangerous agenda! We need to lift our hand towards the throne of God and take turns to fast and pray day and night until it is broken.
"So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning… Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. He said, 'For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD.'" (Ex 17:10-11,15-16)
Here is a recent Prayer Report,
"Dear Lars and Harriet, May the love, peace, and grace of our Lord and Savior Yeshua be yours today and always.
"I am a Jewish believer, and have been a subscriber to your newsletter, as well as praying for Israel for a few years.  I just received the Prayer Alert for June 5, 2009 and the Lord spoke to me regarding the spirit of Haman.  This spirit has been passed down from generation to generation and needs to be broken.  However, this spirit only comes out through prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21).  I believe that the Lord is asking us to raise up a team of intercessors that is willing to fast and pray for the destruction and end to this spirit.  So it will no longer be passed on to another generation (if there is another one).
"I will initiate the effort here in New Jersey with my Prayer Partners and pray you will do the same.  If you will let me know when you will be fasting and praying for this specific prayer I will co ordinate our team to be in one accord with your team.  Look forward to hearing from you. God Bless You!" (End quote)
We agree with this report. Haman was a descendant of Amalek (see Esth 3:1 and 1 Sam 15:8). God has promised to fight against Amalek from generation to generation and we need to take our responsibility in this generation.
"Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven… The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.'" (Ex 17:14-16)
We are asking Prayer Cells in the Elijah Prayer Army to take responsibility to fast one day a week where at least one person in the prayer cells fasts. Let us continually lift up hands to the throne of God for the destruction of the spirit of Amalek as it pertains to the ungodly agenda of President Obama to abandon Israel to her enemies!
The battle against Amalek will be completely fulfilled when the Messiah returns. But we firmly believe that as long as we lift our hands to the Lord in prayer, God will fight against the ungodly agenda of President Obama. He will be stopped in his tracks! God will not allow him to succeed with his plans. Glory to God! Let us hear from you or your prayer group!
There is also something else that is very easy, that we want all of you in the Elijah Prayer Army to do. We want you to encourage PM Netanyahu to stand firm trusting in God and not give in to US pressure! You can send PM Netanyahu an encouraging personal message by going to the following link on the Israel's Government website.
Tell them who you are. If you are a US citizen we encourage you to let him know that. Encourage PM Netanyahu and let him know that you stand behind him in his just cause and that God will fight for Israel!

How to Pray

For the past two years we have encouraged everyone to pray for Israel and Jerusalem after every meal according to Deut 8:10, "When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you." The following prayers have been part of the Jewish people's prayers after each meal for hundreds of years,
"Have compassion, LORD our God, upon Israel your people, upon Jerusalem, your city, upon Zion the resting place of your glory and upon the royal house of David your anointed. Blessed are you, LORD, who in your mercy rebuilds Jerusalem. Amen."
This should be part of our prayers as well after each meal, just like the Messiah told us to pray, "your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Mt 6:10) When we make it a habit to pray for Jerusalem after each meal, it certainly cannot replace other forms of prayer, privately and in corporate prayer meetings. But it is part of obeying God's command to cry out to him day and night as watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem until the city becomes the praise of the earth.
We ask you to pray for Israel every day according to Zechariah chapter 12. We are now living in the very time in history when this chapter is being fulfilled before our eyes and we need to faithfully pray according to what is written. "Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.'" (Isa 40:1-2,6-8) Read Zechariah chapter 12 often and use the promises therein as spring boards for powerful intercession.

Verse 2 says that God will make Jerusalem a cup of reeling to the nations. This means that God will make Jerusalem an instrument of judgment over the nations' unrighteousness. Here is a quote from a White House press release the day before President Obama stepped on Air Force One to fly to the Middle East.
"My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to advance a wide range of initiatives… NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists.

"IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third. /BARACK OBAMA" (End of quote, see
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Presidential-Proclamation-LGBT-Pride-Month/)
But Zech 12:2 also means that the nations that attack Jerusalem will act unwisely and irrationally, as people that are drunk. Psalm 2:5 says that God will "distress" (NKJV) the leaders of the nations who come against Jerusalem. He will "terrify them" (NASB) and "have them in derision" (Ps 2:4 KJV) and confusion. We should pray according to God's word. Psalm 83 also gives us many powerful promises to pray in this area.
Verse 3 says that God's plans for Jerusalem can never be changed and that all those who try to do that will get hurt. Jerusalem will be the throne of the Messiah of Israel and him alone. "Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry." (Ps 2:10-12)
Verse 4 says that God will strike all the horses of the nations with panic and their riders with madness. He will blind the horses of the nations but will keep a watchful eye on the Jewish people. The horse is in the Bible a symbol of man's strength, especially in war. God is repeatedly fulfilling the promises in this verse on a daily basis in Israel, as most of the terrorist's rockets and weapons fail to accomplish any major harm. We must continue to pray for this and claim this promise over and over! "No weapon formed against you[including Iran's nuclear weapons' program] shall prosper." (Isa 54:17 NKJV)
Verse 5 says that the people of Jerusalem will be strong, because the LORD Almighty is their God. In the end only God himself will protect his own people and we need to pray that the Jewish people will trust him. "Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked [the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa mosque] will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous." (Ps 125:1-3)
Verse 6 says that the leaders of Judah will consume the surrounding nations like a firepot in a woodpile. This was partly fulfilled in 1967, but will be fulfilled again as these nations continue to attack Israel. We need to pray according to this promise for Israel's leaders to be bold and courageous.
Verse 8 says that God will shield those who live in Jerusalem (and Israel). Verse 9 says that he will make up his mind to destroy nations like Iran who attack Jerusalem while the remaining verses of the chapter give us the glorious promise of the end time outpouring of his spirit of grace and supplications on Jerusalem revealing the Messiah, specifically to the religious community where the men and the women gather separately, see Zech 12:10-13. They are destined for a powerful visitation from God!
• Pray that God will grant Prime Minister Netanyahu and the new Israeli government courage to not give in to international pressure to divide Jerusalem!
"Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe." (Pr 29:25)
"But now, this is what the LORD says — he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.'" (Isa 43:1-2)
• Pray for wisdom in forming Israel's new foreign policy and especially how to deal with the threat from Iran!
"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." (Dan 2:20-21)
• Pray for a strong unity in the new government in Israel!
"Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall." (Lk 11:17)
• Pray that a military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, which seems unavoidable, will be successful!
"See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail." (Isa 54:16-17)
• Pray for the perfect timing!
"…the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure. For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter… The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all."(Eccl 8:5-6; 9:11)
• Pray that God will destroy those who attack Jerusalem and pour out the Spirit of grace and supplication on Jerusalem revealing the Messiah who was pierced!
"On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son." (Zech 12:4,9-10)
