Bozrah by Fran Regan

In portions of our haftorah, from Isaiah 61 and 63, along with passages from our Torah portion, Micah and Revelation, we have a picture of our returning Messiah in great wrath upon His enemies (and ours) and in great deliverance for His people.

Isaiah 61:10-11
“I greatly rejoice in Yah, my being exults in my Elohim. For He has put (3847) garments (899) of deliverance (3468) on me, He has covered me (3276) with the robe ( 4598) of righteousness (6666), as a bridegroom (2860) decks (3547) himself with ornaments, and as a bride (3618) adorns (5710) herself with her jewels.

3847 - Put or clothed –– luwt – tet, vav, lamed – to wrap up
899 - Garments: -  – begged – dalet, gimel, beit – a covering, i.e., clothing, also treachery – from 898 – to cover (with a garment), to act covertly
3468 - Deliverance -– yesha – ayin, \shin, yud – from 3467 – to be open, wide or free, to be safe, to free, preserved, rescue, bring salvation, get victory, liberty, deliverance, prosperity, safety
3276 - Covered or put on– ya’al – lamed, ayin, yud – to ascend, to be valuable, useful
4598 - Robe –– meiyl – lamed, yud, ayin, mem – covering, robe, upper and outer garment, from 4603 – to cover up, to act covertly, treacherously, commit a trespass
6666 - Righteousness -  – tsedaquh – hey, qof, dalet, tsade – rightness, justice, virtue or prosperity
2860 – bridegroom – chathan –  nun sofit, tav, chet – a relative  by marriage (espec through the bride); from 2859 – to contract affinity (close relationship) by marriage, join in affinity, similarity of species, implying family resemblance
3547 - Decks or puts on –– kahan – nun sofit, hey, kauf – to mediate in relig. services, to officiate as a priest, to put on regalia
5710 - Adorns or wears –– adah – hey, dalet, ayin – to advance, pass on or continue
3618 – bride – kallah – hey, lamed, kaph – a bride as if perfect, from 3634 – to complete, make perfect
3627 – jewels – keliy – yud, lamed kaph – something prepared, from 3615 – to complete, prepare

I greatly rejoice in Yah, my being exults in my Elohim. For He has ‘wrapped me up’ and covered me with deliverance and safety. He has made me valuable with rightness and justice; because we are ‘joined in affinity’ (bridegroom – to ‘contract’ affinity or covenant – “we are joined in His Covenant”), He mediates as a priest for me, making me perfect and complete (bride) by what He has prepared for me (jewels). [In both ‘bride’ and ‘jewels’, the concept of ‘completion’ is stated. We are complete/made one in Him. When? – when He comes back for us, His bride, to take us to His Father’s house where He had prepared a place for us – as long as we are His faithful bride, abiding by His ‘contract’ or ‘Covenant”.]

Micah 2:8
“And lately My people have risen up as an enemy. You strip off the robe (143) with the garment (8009) from those who trust you, (983) as they pass by (5674) – those returning [apostate] (7725) from battle.”

143 – robe (cloak) – Adar – resh, dalet, alef – fire, the 12th Hebrew month
8009 – garment – Salmah – hey, mem, lamed, shin – clothing; same as 8008 to 8071 – idea of a cover assuming the shape of the object beneath fem. 5566 – to resemble, a likeness
983 – trust – betach – chet, tet, beit – a place of refuge, safety, security and the feeling of trust, assurance, without care, confident
5674 – pass by – abar – resh, beit, ayin – to cross over, transition
7725 – returning – shuwb  - beit, vav, shin – to turn back, restore,

And lately My people have risen up as an enemy. You strip off My covering of fire, My likeness (family resemblance - indicating ‘unfaithfulness’), [which I had ‘wrapped you’ in] as well as from those who trust you with all confidence, as they transition (turn back) from their apostasy, coming from (repenting from) their struggles (backsliding).

When Yah gave us His Covenant, He gave Himself, as He is The Word. In His love (as the Bridegroom), He wrapped Himself around us (as the bride) as a robe [covering] of righteousness. He wrapped us in His Word (Himself) to protect us and give us life (to put His Word/His Seed within us).  “…choose life, so that you live, both you and your seed, to love Yah your Elohim, to obey His voice, and to cling to Him  (‘become one with Him’ Genesis 2:24) – for He is your life and the length of your days – to dwell in the land which Yah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yacob, to give them.” (Deu. 30:19-20)  “All His commands are Righteousness and Truth (and Life and Love).” Psalms 119:172/142.
But we ‘stripped off His robe’. We rejected Him, His Word, His love. We pushed Him away.

Moses, also, tells us twice, in Deuteronomy 31:29 and in Deuteronomy 4:30, about our unfaithfulness in the latter days.
31:29  - “For I know that after my death you shall do very corruptly and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you. And evil shall come to you in the latter days, because you do what is evil in the eyes of Yah, to provoke Him through the work of your hand.”
4:30 - “In your distress, (trouble, tribulation) when all these words shall come upon you in the latter days, then you shall return to Yah your Elohim and shall obey His voice.”

Isaiah 63:1-4
“Who is this coming from Edom, with garments of glowing colors (2556) from Bozrah, who is robed (3830) in splendor, (1921) striding forward (6808) in the greatness of His strength?  “It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”  Why is there red on Your raiment, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
“I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. [as spoken in Micah 2:8 above.] And I trod them down in My displeasure, and I trampled them in My wrath. Their blood is sprinkled  upon My garments, and I have defiled (1351) all My raiment.
For a day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year (8141) of My redeemed (1350) has come.”

2556 –  glowing colors - chamets – tsade sofit, mem, chet – fermented or harsh, [ in colors, dazzling]
3830 –  robed - lebuwsh – shin, vav, beit, lamed – a garment, (euphem) a wife, clothing from 3847 – wrap around
1921 –  splendor - hadar – resh, dalet, hey – to swell up, to favor or honor, be high or proud
6808 –  striding forward - tsa’ah – hey ayin, tsade – to tip over for the purpose of spilling or pouring out, depopulate, imprison or conquer, captive, exile
1351 –  raiment – ga’al – lamed, alef, gimel – identical with 1350 – to desecrate, stain, pollute, defile
8141 -  year – shaneh – hey, nun, shin – a year (as a revolution of time) whole age, from 8138 – to transmute (to change from one form, condition, nature to another, transform), repeat, return, do the second time
1350 -  redeemed – ga’al – lamed, alef, gimel – to redeem, next of kin, buy back property, marry widow, purchase, ransom, revenger

Who is this coming from Edom, with garments of dazzling colors, from Bozrah, (a place of exile) who is wrapped around with a wife (He has come for His bride), honored and high, (from the Right Hand of Yah) pouring Himself out for the imprisoned and exiled in His great strength? It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me.  And I trod them down in My displeasure, and I trampled them in My wrath. Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments and yes, I have defiled all My raiment but I have also revenged.
For a day of vengeance is in My heart,  (toward His enemies and the persecutors of His bride) and the changed nature, transformation, of My bride/My wife has come.
She has come back to Him and He has again, in His great love and mercy, enveloped her, wrapped her in His robe [His Righteousness/His Word]. He is about to avenge and deliver her.

Micah 2:12-13
“I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
The Breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them.”

You will find ‘Bozrah’ in only two translations today – the Kings James Version and the Hebrew Names Version. For the most part, it has been removed by the translators.  Why?

Revelation 19:11-13
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written that no man knew, but he himself.
and He was clothed in a robe dipped in blood  (from the ‘day of vengeance’, from Bozrah?)– and His Name is called: The Word of Yah.”

This saga continues in Revelation 12, as the woman (Israel) flees into the wilderness where she has a place prepared for her (Bozrah, perhaps?) where she is nourished for a period of time until Her Bridegroom, her Messiah comes to deliver her from her enemies and take her as His bride.
When “…because of all these words that have come upon us, …. we bring them back to our heart…..and turn back to our Elohim and obey His voice….then Yah our Elohim will turn back our captivity…..and gather us….and bring us to the land…[Micah 2:12] circumcise our hearts and the hearts of our seed to love Yah our Elohim with all our hearts and beings, and Yah …shall put all these curses on our enemies and on those who hate us, who persecute us [Isaiah 63:1-4; Rev. 19:11-13]… and we shall turn back and obey the voice of Yah and do all His commands….”
Deuteronomy 30: 1-8 (in part)

These scriptures from our Torah and haftorah portion, with related ones, all seem to be directing our attention toward the latter days and our Messiah returning for His bride.  There is a prophecy in Isaiah 63 and Micah 2 that is rarely mentioned today.  It is the prophecy of the Bozrah deliverance.  I would like to introduce you to this prophecy, if you’ve never heard it, for your consideration, by finishing with this article by Gavin W. Finley from his website www.endtimepilgrim.org.
